National Sons Day is celebrated in the United States on March 4 but also in September. It’s not an official holiday but people post about their sons on social media, share love, pride and encouragement. Some families also use this day to reflect on their bond and spend time together.
What is National Sons Day?
Jill Nico created National Sons Day in 2018 to have meaningful conversations between parents and their sons.
The day is to honor the role of sons in families and acknowledge their growth, potential and contributions. It’s a way for parents, especially dads, to express love and gratitude to their kids especially their sons.
Why are there two National Sons Days?
National Sons Day is on September 28. The reason for having two is not clear but some people think social media had a hand in creating the double quasi-holiday.
It’s not an official holiday. People post on social media. They express love, pride and encouragement. Some families reflect on their bond and spend time together.
Since the dates emerged during the rise of influencers and online platforms, different social media communities chose different dates to celebrate. Some picked March 4, others September 28 and that’s how we have two separate observances.
The term double quasi-holiday means these days are not official or formal but through social media and individual preferences.
