Dr. Sundar Sankaran, a senior doctor based in Bengaluru, has criticized HDFC Bank for bombarding him with spam calls from its loan sales team. Despite blocking multiple phone numbers, Dr. Sankaran continued receiving calls soliciting loans. Exasperated, he admonished one caller, prompting a person claiming to be the caller’s manager to phone Dr. Sankaran and demand why he was “rude” to the salesperson.
HDFC loan solicitors have become a nuisance, pestering customers with frequent calls even after being blocked. After one caller was dismissed rudely, another claiming to be a manager called back seeking an explanation for the rudeness – looking like more spam despite coming from HDFC itself. The company needs to investigate and address this harassment of its customers.

Speaking to, Dr. Sankaran expressed concern, saying, “It’s very troublesome to receive unknown calls when examining sick patients. While some may advise ignoring these calls. They’re often from desperate patients needing my help, so I can’t silence my phone.
The doctor provided a list of phone numbers from which he had received the spam calls and tagged HDFC Bank and its customer support team, prompting a response. An HDFC customer service representative named Ajay commented, “Hello Sundar, we apologize for your poor experience. Please send us the caller details and contact number that received the calls so we can better assist you.
Dr. Sankaran had previously notified HDFC Bank about the issue of spam calls from telemarketers. But the unwanted calls persisted, as seen in a screenshot he shared. In the screenshot, the bank representative explained that while HDFC complies with telemarketing laws and regulations. It cannot control freelance telemarketers. The representative suggested that affected customers should file complaints with their phone providers so the spammers could face legal consequences.
A survey released in February found that, despite registering on the Do Not Disturb list, around 90 percent of respondents reported receiving daily spam calls selling financial services, real estate projects, and other products. The vast majority of these unwanted calls promoted financial services and real estate products specifically, according to the survey results.
